Personal Independence Payment (PIP) includes two components:

Every one of these components has basic enhanced rates, which depend on how severe your needs are.

Who Is Qualified For PIP?

You must be more than 16 but under the State Pension age to apply for Personal Independence Payment (PIP).

You must also somehow have a disability or medical condition that makes day-to-day life or around more difficult. These difficulties must have been experienced by you for at least three months and may be expected to continue for another 9 months, or if you are ill with 6 months or less in which to live.

Those who require help with daily living usually need personal care, like help with personal hygiene, meals, getting undressed and dressed, medication management and communication.

NOTE: PIP is for those in Wales, England, or Northern Ireland. But if you live in Scotland, just apply for Adult Disability Payment.

How Can You Apply For PIP

To make a new PIP claim, call on 0800 917 2222 to the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP). As long as you’re there, someone else can call.

You will then be given a form to fill out. After this form has been sent off, you will be asked for an assessment (which can be in person or online). Your social care or health worker may also ask you for any other information.

With this assessment, you will receive a grade based on how well you can do particular tasks. This score will decide whether you are eligible and how much funds you should be given via PIP. You’ll receive this score in a letter if your claim is successful.
