Where is Amanda E. Lewis now? | The Death of Adrianna Hutto

Adrianna Hutto was a young girl, only 7 years old, from America. She was discovered not breathing in the swimming pool at her home by her mother in Esto, Florida, on August 8, 2007.

Her mother quickly called for emergency help, and Adrianna was taken to the hospital very fast. Sadly, she passed away about an hour after arriving. At first, everyone thought it was just a tragic accident. But then, Adrianna’s younger half-brother, who was 6, told the police that he saw their mother put Adrianna under the water in the pool on purpose as a way to punish her.

Because of what her half-brother said, in September 2007, the mother was taken by the police and accused of the very serious crime of murder. She was given a chance to admit to a lesser crime and spend 10 years in jail, but she did not accept it. So, they decided that a court would have to figure out what really happened.

What happened at the trial?

The court case for Lewis began in February 2008. During the trial, the words of A.J., who was only 6 years old, were used as evidence. The lawyers defending Lewis said that A.J. was not a trustworthy witness because his story had changed many times when he was asked questions. Before the trial started, a doctor’s examination report was not allowed to be used because there were complaints that the doctor had not done his job properly in more than 35 other situations.

The lawyers trying to prove Lewis was guilty showed that Adrianna had several marks on her forehead. These marks were just like what A.J. had described. Only four days after the trial began, the people deciding the case said that Lewis was guilty of the very serious crime of murder and also of hurting a child very badly. In March 2008, Lewis received the punishment of spending her whole life in jail, with no chance of getting out early.
